The continued development of the 4th team saw them come up against the early league leaders who had notched up 23 goals in their opening two games. Still missingregular goalkeeper Raj Singh, the elder member of the Fisher family stepped into goal this week. It was not long into the game when he was called upon, sliding out to prevent North Shields scoring within the first 5 minutes. However the clean sheet did not last l, as North Shields number 23 roofed the ball after the ball feel to him in the D. In fact it was going to be Number 23s day as he added a further three goals before half time. It seemed that Fisher in goal could not stopped any of his shots, but they were a flick top right at a short, chip from the top of the D and a strike that went like a bullet, making it 4-0 at half time. However this was not a true reflection of the game, with the young Durham City team getting as many chances as their rivals, but unable to convert. Some lovely linking play in the Durham midfield and an excellent work rate throughout the team, meant the opposition had to work for their opportunities. The lovely pirouette from Nicholas Royle was a highlight of the first half.

The second half saw both teams create more chances. North Shields went 6-0 up after they scored from a penalty corner through their number 23 flicking into the top right again and then from a well placed shot after a misunderstanding in the D. It looked as if Durham were not going to get any reward from the game today. The young team started to run the midfield and their pressure eventually paid off. A break out from the right saw Harry Oliver play the ball inside to Toby Fisher. Quick thinking saw him play the ball to Tony Cuthbert, who then fed James Plyming. Silky work from James created an opening for young gun Thomas Steel who collected the ball and shot into the left corner of the goal. A brilliant example of the passing style of hockey the team can play. North Shields were not finished as they added a 7th from a short corner. The ball hit three goal posts before being put away. Just to add a note North Shields missed a penalty flick . The final score was 7-1 to North Shields. They certainly look like league favourites, but what is more important Durham City 4ths matched them throughout the game. Everyone enjoyed the game, even a 49 year old part-time goal keeper.
