A convincing opening performace by Durham 2s against Marton Furness. Albeit a make-shift team composed of 1st, 2nd and 3rd team players.
A tricky first half was hard fought as players adjusted to the debut captains "inspired' diamond midfield formation which effectively ended up being less diamond and more graphite in its effects. This, by now fairly obvious failure, was duly pointed out by Iain in stating to Alan "Its crap!" (Point taken, thanks).
The defense battled hard with a few narrow escapes and excellent goal keeping by Danny, frustrating the MF attackers.
In midfield the formation which was impeding the flow of the game adapted to a regular flat four and were better able to offer up the ball to the deprived forwards.
2-0 up at the half time interval the ex-captains were able to offer their collective wisdom to the team. Resulting in what turned out to be a very domineering 2nd half performance. This was epitomised by Joe scoring the classiest goal of the day, by nonchalantly lobbing the ball over the MF keeper.
The forwards definately stole the glory by the end of the match with Jamsie and Joe notching up a brace each and midfielder Liam also getting on the score sheet. Better luck next time Miles.
MOM - Joe for his outstanding performance and goals.
DOD - Adam for literally not being able to hold his drink.
A quick note of congratulations to both our umpires in their assessment - Tim and Nobby
(assuming Nobby was correct in stating they'd both passed. Despite missing the obvious Pentalty Flick and Yellow card to MF GK for the assault on Joe in the 2nd half.)
