The first game of two this weekend saw us lose 1-3 to league-leaders Shallam. The score, however, belies a fantastic performance and a real bounce back after last week’s embarrassment.
There’s nothing really to say about the first-half. We had a far few chances and so did Shallam, but neither could score. 0-0.
The second-half saw things get interesting. We struck first. Although it wasn’t against the run of play, we were still surprised to be beating – and appearing to dominate – a team who have only lost once since the start of the season. Thanks to Dragon, we won a penalty, so up stepped Duncan. No doubt. 1-0. Shallam replied quickly after a turnover. 1-1. They then scored seconds later after another turnover. 2-1. After dominating, we’d folded within five minutes. From a short-corner, Shallam scored a third. Our fate was sealed. We could not manage to reply.
As Coach Jack said afterwards, we were brilliant for fifty minutes and were undone by a few seconds of negativity. We were not too bothered about the result. Rather, we felt proud at a return to form and a good performance against a slick outfit. It boded well for the following day’s game against Hull.
