There’s not much to say about our performance on Saturday. Adel were bad, but not terrible for second-bottom in the league, and we were worse. Infinitely worse. A 0-3 loss saw the forwards cut adrift, the midfield under constant pressure, and the defence rarely able to get the ball up the pitch. Adel won a short-corner extremely early, but nothing came from it. Yet it didn’t take long for Adel to score their first. We turned the ball over in the midfield and Adel – as we were to find out for seventy long minutes – were rather adept at counter-attacking. From the right-side, a Duncan doppelgänger bundled the ball into the net after a one-on-one.
The second-half saw the same lookalike scored two more. Coach Jack’s haranguing at half-time proved inconsequential, as our first series of passes saw us quickly ship the ball off the side-line. The tone was set. Another counter saw another Adel one-on-one and, unsurprisingly, another goal. Adel’s third and final goal came from a melee in the ‘D’ that fell to the Adel attacker. 0-3. We had a couple of short-corners, but nothing came of them. Very little else positive happened. We ended the game angry, depressed, and frustrated. We have plenty to improve and shall do all we can to avoid repeating such a horrendous result. At least Matt Kettley’s bet came good. The end of season curry is on him.
MoM: Matt Coe (keeping the score down)
DoD: Toby Fisher (getting the wrong train to Tuesday training, which resulted in him fighting for his life in Darlington)
