Great away point against tough opposition

Lots of hashtags this week after an eventful game and a lovely social. Both warrant their own reports. Most of you are probably here for the match report rather than the relatively niche curry and chat analysis, so the game will come first. No pressure to keep reading afterwards!

Finally, we have gained some points. It was a long away trip to Hull, but worth the travel. With Rob playing his first game for us against his old team, we felt confident. We looked good in the warm-up, even if Anth hit a ball over the fence in an infamously awkward fashion. We had push-back. Right from the start, we looked the most composed we had been all season. Passing round the back, building our attacks, confidence in our teammates, all were on display. Both teams had chances; neither could score. The half ended 0-0.

If I was the CIA, what I would like to write regarding the second-half would be redacted by way of a thick black marker pen. However, the editing on these reports is far less thorough. To prevent me from getting pulled up by the league for anything, then, please come find any one of the team on Tuesday, because we shall tell you our opinions on what happened. Here, I must stick to the facts. Hull scored first, a shot from the right finding its way in after a melee. Yet we bounced back with vigour. Duncan grabbed our equaliser by smashing in a stray and bouncing shot. 1-1. Matt Kettley then put us ahead with barely ten minutes left on the clock. Thus began a Hull onslaught, particularly on the left-hand side. We accrued a couple of cards and more than a couple scrapes. Nobody left the pitch completely intact. George took a particular battering. A flurry of short-corners for Hull led to nothing. Then, with six seconds left, Hull were somehow rewarded a short-corner which, almost inevitably, crossed the line, albeit after some frantic and ferocious defence. 2-2.

What a performance. Some might say we were robbed. Regardless, we have points on the board, we are off the bottom of the table, and we have proved we can win games – at least when it comes to our on-pitch performance.

MoM: George Sutton (took an absolute pasting all game and kept going)

DoD: George Sutton (for heading straight home after the game to pilfer a recently deceased potter’s equipment)

Curry Report

Post-match, eight of us headed for a curry at Amaani. A delicious meal ensued, accompanied by stellar conversation encompassing the Ukraine conflict, how we had angered celebrities (who knew so many people had a connection to Duncan Bannatyne?); and the practicalities of encasing various foods in other foods, a subject surprisingly close to Timmy’s heart. Hopefully we’ll see a few more of you next time! Just remember to bring both your grapes and your laminated pictures of traffic lights to keep you calm…
