The greatest victory for Men's First Team this Year!

On a windy Sunday afternoon at Durham School was the highly anticipated ' 6 pointer ' clash between Durham City first team and Durham University 4th team.

City took an early lead with what can only be described as 'the best team goal in the world' (Reecy,2017). With confidence high City destroyed the visitors defence and truly dominated their midfield. Cam ' the cannonball ' Gray bossed the left wing , terrorising Durham University's defence and almost doubled the lead with a maze like run taking it past at least 10 of the oppositions' players. Further bombardment to the university's goal was almost rewarded with two stunning deflections by Tim Hargreaves and Iain Mason forcing top draw saves from the keeper.

Half time arrived with Durham City winning one goal to nil. The defence had been solid with no real efforts being registered by the uni , this was down to the top efforts by new signings Chris Hepworth , Duncan and Andrew Robertson ( the fierce duo extradited from Scotland for being too good at hockey ) with the support of long term veterans Tom Bulmer , Alan ' the mad dog' Dawson and Pete ' the wall ' Sutton. The team talk is confidential and will not be posted in the match report to protect the team's tactics.

The second half begun much of the same from the first half. Anthony Hulse producing some outstanding runs and was rewarded with another goal , taking his tally to closer to the elusive 100 club goals club. Josh 'Hodges' Mitchell , loanee Graeme Jorgensen , returnee Ben Baker and Jordan 'Nobby' Bell all joining in with the endless attacks. City were unlucky to not find a third with the final 10 minutes to go in the game.

The uni were foolishly given a glimmer of hope with a penalty flick awarded by the opposition umpire ( probably because he felt sorry for them ) . However this hope was quickly extinguished by Danny 'the man mountain' Mitchell with what can only be described as 'the best save made by a keeper ever' ( Michael Owen, 2015 ). With a few minutes remaining the university with their second real threat at goal scored with a lucky deflection , this was insignificant to the outcome of the game as Durham went on to win 2-1.

MOM - Should have been Duncan , great game and provided some entertainment with the John Smiths ' ave it ' clearance with 30 seconds to go. But was infact Danny for some decent save he made.

DOD - Iain ' the engine ' Mason , didn't turn up to teas and went for an 11.4 mile run ( as if the two games of hockey weren't enough already!)

Special mention to Cam's Dad for the pictures and the hundreds of fans that turned up to watch and cheers the team on!
