This is more than a trophy. It’s a celebration of everything we stand for. Passion. Inclusivity. Community. Growth. And a love for the game. What a year it’s been.
We’ve taken massive strides in making hockey more accessible than ever. For the first time in our history, Durham will offer Flyerz hockey, bringing inclusive and wheelchair hockey to our community. Huge thanks to Laura, whose vision, determination and relentless work means that this summer we’ll be trialling wheelchair hockey at Maiden Castle. A historic moment for hockey in Durham.
Our junior section has seen incredible growth. Since taking over the Durham Community programme, we now have over 220 juniors on the books. This wouldn’t have been possible without our brand new junior committee. Huge thanks to Iain, Alan, Dave, Richard, Jo and Tania for building such a strong and welcoming foundation for the future of our club.
Our annual hockey festival has grown into the largest in the North of England, and it’s all thanks to the unbelievable work of Jane and Miles. Their dedication, year after year, has turned it into a true celebration of the sport and a highlight of the hockey calendar.
Our women’s section has gone from strength to strength. With numbers soaring, we made the exciting decision at Christmas to launch our first ever Women’s 4XI, led with energy and enthusiasm by Sarah and Lori. A massive step forward for women’s hockey at DCHC.
This year also marked the first successful season for our Men’s 4XI in a supported league. Huge credit to Paddy and Mike for creating a brilliant space where junior and senior players can thrive together in a competitive environment. It’s made a real difference to development and club culture alike.
On the pitch, we’ve had a season to remember. Last year, every one of our men’s teams secured promotion. This year, they’ve gone one better by holding their places and continuing to climb. Our Men’s 1XI finished fourth in the North East and Yorkshire Premier League, an incredible achievement in their debut season at this level. And our Men’s 3XI have gone and been promoted again, proving the incredible strength and depth that runs right through the club.
This award belongs to every player, coach, volunteer, committee member and supporter who has poured their time, energy and heart into making DCHC what it is today. We could not be prouder!!!!
And this is just the beginning ???
