Top of the table clash goes City's way, written by Phoebe Sowerby

The Ladies 2s played Durham University 6XI on Saturday. This was a top of the table clash if we won it would strengthen our position at the top.
We were ready to take on this team of individuals with fitness and youth on their side, we however had age, wisdom and some very tired players who had spent the hours from 3am onwards watching Monsters Inc.

However, that didn’t stop us, with the warm-up constituting of many complaints of injuries and much discussion of the Traitors final.
With our very own coach on the side line and Luna the fluffy mascot we were ready to go.

In classic ladies 2 style, we were told to go out there fighting and score early on. The first half consisted of a very even battle with no goals, there was some great play from our midfielders however we couldn’t quite convert it.
Half time and Meg asked the universe for sweets, it didn’t listen but Esther did, Haribos provided all were focused on round 2!

Second half was underway and within a minute Ellie had decided that head-butting the ball would be a much better idea than using her stick. Some great play from Libby and Sienna in the middle meant we were dominating their half. There was a turnover ball and Uni got a shortcorner and managed to score. The race was on!

We shifted into second gear, Darcy and Lori having some fantastic leads into the circle and we retaliated with a fab goal from Laura.
After that, the attack from the Uni was on and the defence held them off brilliantly with some of our defenders even getting altitude sickness as they made their way into the opposing D.

After some tackling Libby released the ball Slowly, like incredibly slowly, as confirmed by everyone watching including their goalie but it rolled into the back corner

2-1 Durham City.

The game ended with great play from all involved. We are now ready to go again next week with a double header.

Teas after were an interesting affair, Durham uni didn’t turn up to teas and we were thrust a jacket potato without cheese which did not go down well with some however, all were happy to find out after a fair few months of debate Meg and her Husband finally have cutlery in their house. If anyone wants to visit Meg she can provide you with a fork, knife or spoon upon entry !
